Why Provide Counselling for Your Staff?
“Through counselling, employees can gain a deeper under- standing of themselves and a greater appreciation of the role of work in their lives.”
Ian Holder, (quoted in) The Art of Survival, People Management, 1 May 2003
Every organisation has a goal to achieve. It's easy to be positive about the future success of those goals when things are going well, but success relies on the people who make up an organisation and not everyone can deliver all the time.
People are at the heart of every organisation, providing its drive, direction and energy. When a member of staff is in personal crisis for any reason - whether personal or work-related - this will impact upon their performance. One reason for providing counselling for your staff is to maintain general well-being; another is to prevent individual crises or personal difficulty becoming organisational crises. By offering counselling services, a company demonstrates its loyalty to staff and a commitment to understand and implement appropriate work-life practices.
Our research has shown, and government data confirms*, that when strategies which meet the employee needs of an organisation, such as counselling, are in place, they have considerable and measurable benefits, such as:
- the retention of valued employees
- offering a better customer/client service
- reduction of absenteeism, sickness and stress
- improved productivity and performance
- increased commitment and morale
- an increased ability to deal with organisational change
How Does It Work?
3CPartners’ qualified counselling team use a variety of proven and effective approaches to help an employee ‘see things more clearly, possibly from a different perspective. Counselling is a way of enabling choice or change or of reducing confusion.’**…..In the counselling sessions the client can explore various aspects of their life and feelings, talking about them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief and embarrassment can become very intense and counselling offers an opportunity to explore them, with the possibility of making them easier to understand’**. Our experience in this field has shown that an individual’s concerns can, in most cases, be addressed within a limited number of sessions.
